OBITUARY Raymond D. Ashley December 11, 1929 – January 29, 2019 Mr. Raymond Denson Ashley, age 89 of Gadsden passed from this life to join his Lord in Heaven on January 29, 2019. Funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. on Friday February 1, 2019 at New Beginning Community Church, 907 3rd Ave. North, Gadsden.

Dr. R. Gary Ashley will officiate the service. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday at the church from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing. Mr. Ashley worked for the Gadsden Police Department from 1950 to 1970, and with the Gadsden Revenue Department from 1970 to 1992.

After several years of retirement he worked numerous part-time jobs. Mr. Ashley became a Christian and was baptized at Cherry Street Baptist Church in 1958. A longtime member of the church- he served his congregation for many years as a deacon, Bible Study teacher and prayer warrior.

Mr. Ashley was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ashley and his first wife, Mary Faith McElroy Ashley. He is survived by; His wife of thirty-nine years, Sue Croft McDonald Ashley. Son, Gary (Beth) Ashley.

Daughter, Pam (Danny) Winkles. Daughters, Cindy (Michael) Holderfield, Pam (Robert) Gaither, Terri (Phillip) Holderfield Ten Grandchildren; Andy Bowen, Amy (Matt) Carter, Misty (Reagan) Kerr, Josh (Angela) Ashley, Amanda “Spider” (Anthony) Velez, Michelle “Lizard” (Eugene) Farrar, Nickolas “Main Man” (Lauren) Holderfield, Katie “Beetle Bum” Holderfield, Chad “Mountain Man” Holderfield, and Chelsea “Butter Bean” Holderfield. Thirteen Great Grandchildren; Riley, Madison, Olivia, Griffin, Parker, Caleigh, Brayden, Aubrie, Alex, Madelyn, Gabriella, Kinsley & Liam “Main Man’s Little Man”.

One of the greatest men we have ever known. The teller of stories, the wittiest and wisest of them all. You will forever be in our hearts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of Riverview Regional Medical Center for the excellent care they provided to Mr. Ashley as he passed through the valley of death. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Josh Ashley, Andy Bowen, Phillip Holderfield, Mike Holderfield, Danny Winkles, David Sewell and Sidney Patterson.
