Raymond David “Ray” Kornell, 93, of Brookings, Oregon passed away on October 20th, 2018. He was born September 30, 1925 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to Virginia and John Stanley Kornell. Raised in Regina, Ray went to a college with intentions of becoming a Catholic priest.

Finally, not having that calling, he instead became a bus driver, following that occupation for 20 years. At age 40, Ray retired and began his musical career. Studying piano for many years, Ray began… Read More » playing in piano bars, hotels and nursing homes.

As Ray became accomplished, he recorded CDs of which he has 60 different ones. He never aimed to sell the CDs, as he would always give them away. Ray, like his wife, was always helpful to others.

Ray belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was very active in the Catholic church and his fraternity organization. He and his wife, Marilyn, who preceded him in death on September 16th, 2015, had a wonderful 33 years of a married life together. They had no children.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 8th at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 800 Old County Road, Brookings. Ray will be sorely missed. Redwood Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
