Reemt Rikkelds Baumann passed away peacefully at Ohio Living Swan Creek on October 9th, 2018 at the age of 89. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 18th, 1928 to Richard and Bertha Baumann. His formative years were spent working in the family business, the Forst- Keller German restaurant in Milwaukee.

Reemt graduated from Valparaiso University with a BA in Mathematics and Physics in 1951 and then went on to earn an MS in Educational Measurements and PhD in Statistical Research Tools from… Read More » the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 stationed mainly in Japan. He was a professor first at the University of Rhode Island and then at the University of Toledo in the Department of Educational Research and Measurement until retirement in 1997.

That same year he was the recipient of the prestigious Teacher of the Year award from the University of Toledo. He especially enjoyed exploring the frontiers of statistical analysis techniques and frequently offered seminar opportunities for graduate students. Reemt enjoyed assisting faculty and students in their research projects and led or directed more than fifty doctoral dissertations.

He was currently a member of Community of Christ Lutheran Church (Whitehouse). Previously he was an active member of Olivet Lutheran Church (Sylvania) serving as a member of the Congregation Council and as church treasurer. He earlier held similar positions at Memorial Lutheran Church (Toledo) as a church council member, treasurer and congregational president.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was lovingly as “Opa” to his 9 grandchildren. His other pastimes included playing bridge, bowling and golfing with friends. Additionally, he closely followed the sporting activities of the University of Toledo Rockets, the University of Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Reemt was preceded in death by Joan, his loving wife of over 50 years. He is survived by his caring daughters Cindy (Neil) Nutter (Whitehouse, OH), Kari (Dan) Kenna (Bartlett, IL) and Amy Baumann (Kalamazoo, MI) and wonderful grandchildren Alison, Emily, Susan and Rachel Nutter; Sean, Ryan, Jamie and Taylor Kenna; and Erika Baumann. He is also survived by sister Anneliese Bergmann of Wauwatosa, WI and special cousin Hildy Grady of Sturgeon Bay, WI.

Friends and relatives are invited to gather at a memorial service at Community of Christ Lutheran Church, 6517 Finzel Road (Whitehouse, OH) on November 3rd at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a lunch following the service. His cremated remains will be placed in the Garden of Peace at Olivet Lutheran Church (Sylvania, OH).
