Reverend Bobby Burns was born January 19, 1940 and returned to his Heavenly home on April 22, 2018 at the age of 78, after a valiant battle with a short illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Reverend Burns was an active Pastor in the community.

He pastured Cherokee Chapel in Chadbourn, Dogwood Baptist Church for 28 years and Mt. Haven Baptist Church for 5 years. He worked for Unity Home Health Care and through his ministry he won 300 souls to Christ.

He served as a mentor to young incarcerated men at the Prison Camp, and opened his home as a halfway house to help these young men transition back into the civilian world. Reverend Burns was an educator at heart. He was kind and soft-spoken and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small.

He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels, leading his eldest son, Chris, to become a pastor. Reverend Burns was preceded in death by his parents, the late Rufus and Avie Burns; brothers, Rev.

O.J. Burns, Rev. Billy Burns, Rufus Burns, Jr., Ernest(Sam) Burns, Grant Burns and Rev. Joseph Burns; a sister, Maggie Burns Oxendine.

Reverend Burns was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Brenda C. Burns of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Sabrina B. Mitchell (Patrick) of Lumberton and Bobbie Ann Burns of the home; two sons, Christopher Lynn Burns of Rowland and Cameron G. Calhoun of the home; nine grandchildren, Bria, Bradon, Shateah, Mary Katlyn, Patrick, Madison, Maygan and Mason; two great-grandchildren, Daylon and Ethan; three brothers, Delton Burns, Grantford Burns of Lumberton and Sanford (Teat) Burns of Maxton; three sisters, Betty Kilroy of Rowland and Mary Cleveland of Lumberton and Lillian McKenzie of Aberdeen; and a host of other relatives and friends.
