Samford, 95, of Huntington will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating.

Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery. Rev. Samford was born September 11, 1923 in Emory, Texas to the late Ozema Mae (Fuston) and Ethan Truman Samford, and died Saturday, February 9, 2019 in a local hospital.

A former resident of Henderson, Rev. Samford had resided in Huntington for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 during World War II, serving in Central Europe as a combat infantryman.

Rev. Samford earned a BS in Education and Divinity from Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, graduating in 1954. Rev.

Samford was a Licensed Ordained Minister in the Assemblies of God for 64 years. He pastored several congregations in Texas. His ministry included four years as an evangelist in the Assemblies of God denomination.

Rev. Samford enjoyed fishing and oil painting. He was a member of the Lufkin Art Guild.

He was known for “tinkering”. Rev. Samford and his helpmate Katherene were campground hosts at Lake of the Pines for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Katherene (Horn) Samford of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Pattie Samford of Huntington, Mark and Cindy Samford of Moyock, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouses, Austin and Becky Samford of Huntington, Michele and Russ Schwarte of Marion, Indiana, Stephanie McKinney of Austin, Victoria and Roland Lemieux of Bealeton, Virginia, Ethan and Lauren Samford, and Erin Samford, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Cory Samford of Boston, Massachusetts, Halee Dry of Marshall, Brendon Dry of Lufkin, Jordan Forrest, Tori Barton, both of Austin, Gabrielle Schwarte, Nathaniel Schwarte, Abigail Schwarte, all of Marion, Indiana, Blane Samford of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Rick and Lisa Lemieux of Bealeton, Virginia; sister, Maydell Benners of Mesquite; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-great-grandson, Jax Johnson; and brother, Truman Samford. Pallbearers will be Austin Samford, Cory Samford, Brendon Dry, Jim Barnard, Gary Griffin, and Lattie Letford.
