Velia Mae Collier September 14, 1933 – February 07, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Graveside services for Velia Mae Collier, 85, of Zavalla will be held Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Concord Cemetery with Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Mrs. Collier was born September 14, 1933 in the Concord Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Minnie (Boykin) and Thomas Benjamin Graham, and died Thursday, February 7, 2019 in a local hospital. Mrs. Collier was a lifetime resident of the Concord Community.

She worked as a candy maker at Atkinson Candy for several years, and was a private caregiver, giving assistance to all who needed help. She loved fishing and was known to frequently be found fishing at Popher Creek. Her primary transportation was her 4-wheeler, up to the age of 84.

Mrs. Collier was a good cook known for her squirrel dumplings, pecan pie and lemon pie. Her steaks were ALWAYS VERY WELL DONE. She was an avid reader, particularly any newspaper, and enjoyed National Geographic, Discovery Channel and the History Channel on TV.

Mrs. Collier attended Zavalla United Pentecostal Church and Zavalla First Baptist Church. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Tonya Collier of Zavalla, Jim and Belinda Miles of Lufkin, Robert and Margaret Miles of Alaska; daughter, Marjorie Hodges of Lufkin; sisters and brother-in-law, Rachel and Weldon Smith of Huntington and Jane Ryder of Zavalla; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Collier; sisters, Mary Graham, Lessie Grimes and Inez Graham; and brother, Horace Graham.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Collier, Jim Miles, Robert Miles, Troy Lakey, Seth Miles, and J.O. Grimes, Jr. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Carroway Funeral Home in Huntington.
