OBITUARY Richard Benjamin Bulkeley July 23, 1929 – December 1, 2018 Richard Benjamin Bulkeley, age 89, life-time resident of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2018 at Devereux House, Marblehead. Dicky Ben was born in Boston on July 23, 1929, and was the second son of the late Warren and Madeline Bulkeley (Elliot). He was the loving brother of Warrene Barr McCormick (deceased 1980), Peter E. Bulkeley of Marblehead (deceased 2003), Madeline E. (Betsy) Bulkeley of Marblehead (deceased 1997), Elliot Jon Bulkeley of Marblehead, and Wendy Lee Sadowski of Atlantic Highlands, NJ.

He graduated from Tilton School, Tilton, NH in 1949. He then enlisted in the Army, served state-side, and was discharged in 1952. He worked locally as a landscape and gardening specialist, diligently pushing his rotary push mower, trimming bushes meticulously, and wearing a long-sleeved shirt all summer long.

He was also an all-around handy-man for his neighbors on Pilgrim Road and loved being outside. He loved his home on Pilgrim Road, maintaining and nurturing its upkeep for his family. But the large yard was still available to neighboring boys to have a quick game of baseball, with a wiffle-ball, of course.

In his later years, he enjoyed sitting outside watching the birds, and the occasional visits of turkeys, rabbits, and squirrels. He is the loving uncle of 5 nieces, 1 nephew, 7 great nieces and nephews, 16 great-great nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great-great nephew. They all have sweet memories of his quick wit, gentle spirit, and receiving birthday greetings from “Unk Dick”.

He had a wonderful sense of humor. The twinkle in Dick’s eye was shared with everyone, and was usually followed by a quick come-back that all could chuckle at. His wonderful dry sense of humor has kept all of us laughing for years.

A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held at his home in Marblehead on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 1 to 3pm.
