Richard `Rick` Darrell Kvamme, age 73 of Park Rapids, passed away on Thursday July 19, 2018 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Richard was born June 20, 1945, to Adolph and Merle (Abbey) Kvamme, in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised in Gilby, ND and graduated from Midway High School in rural Grand Forks County.

Attending Mayville State College in North Dakota, he graduated with a degree in social studies and worked in Argyle, Minnesota; and later earned his Master’s Degree in… Read More » Guidance Counseling from the University of North Dakota, serving as a Guidance Counsellor in Pipestone, Minnesota for over 25 years until his retirement in 2000. Richard also worked as a Crop Insurance Hail Adjuster for over 25 years walking the fields of southwest Minnesota. Richard was married to Beverly Maurseth on August 10, 1968 in Northwood, ND.

Richard had a lifelong passion for education. Not only in his working career as an educator, but reading and traveling to historic sites. He and Beverly saw the world together traveling abroad throughout Europe and the Caribbean.

They also traveled to numerous sites across the United States, including winters spent in Florida. He was a Boy Scout Leader with both of his sons achieving the Eagle Scout award. Richard loved to spend time at his lake home in Park Rapids with his children and grandchildren; and stayed very active as an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Beverly; son, John (Yulia) Kvamme of Plymouth, MN; daughter, Andrea (Greg) Anderson of Little Falls, MN; son, Brian (Anne) Kvamme of Brookings, SD; grandchildren, Ivan and Mila Kvamme, Claire, Benjamin and Alexis Anderson, Will and Allie Kvamme; niece, Stephanie Hanson of Nevis, MN and nephew, Karl Carlson of Park Rapids, MN; as well as many other loving friends and family. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 112 Park Ave. , Park Rapids, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
