Richard H. Rahn, 85, of rural Atkinson, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held on at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Atkinson Congregational Church. Reverend Dan Wright will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Atkinson Township Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Atkinson American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Atkinson Fire Department & Foster Hope.

Rich was born on December 8, 1932, the son of Herman and Alvina (Nehring) Rahn, on the family farm in rural Geneseo. He attended Atkinson schools. Rich married Gay Ann Anderson on August 3, 1957, at the Mineral United Methodist Church in Mineral, Illinois.

He was a lifetime farmer in rural Atkinson, and worked for the Rock Island Line as a carmen for several years, as well as Wyffels Hybrids as a production technician later in life. Rich is a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country from 1955-1956. He was a member of the Atkinson American Legion Post and active in Atkinson Kiwanis Club.

Rich enjoyed snow skiing, ice skating, and other winter sports. His experience on the Rock Island Line gave Rich a love for train rides for fun. Most of all, Rich enjoyed spending time with his loving family at the Annual Rahn Camping Trip.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gay Ann, children; Scott Rahn, of Rock Island, Cindy (Steve) Clementz, of Geneseo, Randy Rahn, of Geneseo, Ryan (Lola) Rahn, of Atkinson, and Russ (Linda) Rahn, of Centerville, OH; ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alvina, his grandson, Jordan Rahn, granddaughter, Bridget Tatman, and sister, Annabelle Mohr.
