Richard Eugene Haines, 90, of Taneytown passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Gettysburg Hospital. Born October 30, 1927 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Earl and Helen (Greenholt) Haines. He was the devoted husband of Jennabell Alma (Stahley) Haines, to whom he was married for 67 years.

Richard worked in Civil Service at Ft. Ritchey in Cascade, MD for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of AMVETS Post #172 in Fairfield, PA, where he was a former Post Commander.

He was also a member of Harney VFW Post #6918. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and spending time in Potter County, PA at the family hunting cabin. Richard was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Jennabell, are his four children, Dennis Haines and wife Karen of Palm Coast, FL, Victoria Eitel of Taneytown, Haven Moss and companion Chuck Kreiner of Taneytown, and Samuel Haines and companion Joyce Roberts of Littlestown, PA; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by all of his siblings, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

A visitation and viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD. A graveside service and burial will be private at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to AMVETS, 4746 Forbes Blvd, Lanham, MD 20706.
