Richard William Bennett, Sr. August 15, 1931 ~ April 20, 2018 Richard William Bennett, Sr. passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by his great posterity of whom he was so proud. Dick was born August 15, 1931 in Inkom, Idaho to Richard Smith and Ada Marie Bennett. His father passed away when Richard was ten years old.

His mother later married Elmer Bower of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Richard finished his schooling in Lava and lettered in all sports. In October 1950, he signed up for the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.

Upon returning in 1952, he married the love of his life, Lula Pearl Wellard and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1955 they moved to Hooper where they were blessed with five sons. Having five sons, his time was spent in sports and horses.

Dick coached many of his son’s teams and spent ten years as the Hooper Jr. Posse leader influencing not only his sons but many of the youth of Hooper. Richard started out racing ponies on the chariot and graduated to racing horses with his sons on the flat track and in the Wasatch and Beehive chariot racing clubs. Richard spent his years employed as a construction superintendent for many of the major construction companies which took him all over Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.

Dick was full of life and big in stature. When you met Dick, you were always welcomed with a smothering bear hug and a forceful slap or two on the back. Richard leaves behind his loving wife, Lula of Hooper; four sons, “Bill” Richard William Jr. (Barbara) of Layton; Clinton (Cheryl), Todd (Trudi) and Mark (Darlene), all of Hooper; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and two sons, Scott and Chris. Special thanks to the staff at McKay-Dee Hospital ICU. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Pioneer Trails Ward Chapel, 5000 South 5900 West, Hooper.

The family will meet with friends on Thursday, April 26th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
