Obituary for Robert A. Borowski Robert A. Borowski, age 82 of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 surrounded by his family. Robert was born on August 16, 1936 to parents Adam and Mary (Kapsak) Borowski in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Robert met Christiane Leger, who came to Pennsylvania from Cherboury, France, while living in the same apartment building.
After a short courtship, they married on March 21, 1964. Robert opened Bob’s Bake Shop in Allentown and continued to share his love of baking with the community. Eventually he wanted to further his education and decided to sell the bakery to attend Kansas State University’s Bakery Science program.
This degree opened the door for many career opportunities for Robert and his family leading them to Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. In 1979, Robert once again opened the doors to his own bakery, Rolling Pin Pastry Company, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He sold this business in 1998 to move to the Chicago with his family.
He had the opportunity to do some consulting work for the California Blueberry Commission and the California Advisory Board of Raisins that took him to several different places around the world. In 2005, Robert and Christiane moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan with their family. Baking was Robert’s lifelong passion.
He was a Certified Master Baker and enjoyed creating beautiful cakes and pasties for friends and family, including friends he made while living at Lurie Terrace Senior Apartments in Ann Arbor. He was an avid sports fan- especially University of Michigan football. Robert enjoyed trips to the casino with friends where he would play blackjack.
Above all else, Robert was proud of his grandchildren, attending sports events, concerts, and other activities. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Christiane, and his sister, Virginia Werkheiser. He will be deeply missed by his son Andrew (Elizabeth) Borowski; his grandchildren Jillian of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jenna of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Joseph of Saline, Michigan; and his brother-in-law Richard Werkheiser; two nephews and one niece.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 12-3 pm at Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor.
