Obituary for Robert Henry Strohm Print Dateline: Scott City Robert Henry Strohm, age 94, passed away on Sunday, February 10, in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on September 3, 1924 in Denver Colorado, the son of Guy Waldo Strohm and Esther Biegle Strohm Katt. A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was an agent with American Home Life Insurance Co. following his retirement from the United States Armed Services in 1965 where he served with distinction for 20 years.

Robert served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II. He fought in the battles at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, and Tarawa, Gilbert Islands, before contracting malaria. Following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp in 1945, he attended Denver University and was the captain of the football team before joining the U. S. Army in 1949.

During his Army career, he was a Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division (1951-53), OCS -Republic of Korea Military Advisor (1953-54), Advance Artillery Officer Course and commanded Air Defense NIKE missile sites at Fort Berry, CA (1955-58), 212 Artillery Group in Hanau Germany (1959-62), and ended his career as Captain in the 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell, KY. Over his military career, commendations include: Glider Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal. Robert was brave and a loyal solider as well as a loving husband and father.

He married his bride, Mary A. Keeling, in Scott City, Kansas on May 26, 1950. She proceeds him in death as well as his son, Russel D. Strohm. Survivors Include: One Son Steven J. Strohm (wife, Gale) of Redondo Beach, California One Daughter Dallas A. Crist (husband, Jeff) of Garden City, Kansas Two Grandsons Solomon R. Crist of Garden City, Kansas Elijah D. Crist of Hutchinson, Kansas One Granddaughter Jessica K. Wadel of Garden City, Kansas Three Nephews John C. Keeling of Brighton, Colorado Jay L. Keeling of Baker Florida Jeffrey Drake of Tonasket, Washington Two Nieces Kelsie J. Percival of Garden City, Kansas Susan Duff of Scott City, Kansas Eleven Great-grandchildren Memorial Service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 23 at Turning Point Church Of The Nazarene in Garden City with Rev Tim Fields and Jeff Crist officiating.

Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery in Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the Veterans Of Foreign Wars in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.
