Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 5-7 P.M. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10 A.M. at Tres Hewell Mortuary with Rev.

Marcus Bigott officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at 2 pm March 1, 2019 at Westhoff Cemetery in Westhoff, Texas. Bob was born on September 9, 1944 in Menard, Texas to Dr. Tom Thaxton and Frances Hurst Thaxton.

When Bob was four, the family moved to Falfurrias where his father opened a Veterinary Medical Practice. After graduating from Falfurrias High School in 1962, Bob attended the University of Texas for three years. He later received his B.A. Degree from St. Edwards’s University in Austin.

Employment included working at various radio stations in McAllen, Bryan, and Midland, Texas. In 1973, Bob was hired as a Sports Editor for the Seguin Gazette. In 1976, he was hired as the Editor of the Aransas Pass Progress and the Ingleside Index.

The position of Managing Editor for the Seguin Gazette was offered to Bob in 1980, which he accepted and the family moved back to Seguin. Bob continued working as the Gazette until 2013, when Macular Degeneration forced his retirement. Bob received various awards in Feature Writing, Editing, and Photography from the South Texas Press Association, and the Texas Press Association.

Hobbies which Bob enjoyed throughout his lifetime included fishing, stamp collecting, coin collecting, gardening, grilling, and cooking. He enjoyed watching his granddaughter Rochelle grow up and was happy spending time with his family. Bob is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet (Markmann) Thaxton; sister Barbara Thaxton of San Antonio; daughter Leslie Thaxton Casas and husband Rocky of Seguin, Texas, and granddaughter Rochelle Casas of Seguin.
