Robert Mervyn McKay, 86, of Pleasant Grove passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on June 30, 1932. He and his twin were born the youngest of seven children to Claude and Mary Carlin McKay.

At a young age his family moved to American Fork, Utah. He attended American Fork High School and joined the United States Navy at the age of seventeen. He served on the DD785 Destroyer in the Korean conflict.

While he was in the service, he made an overnight trip home to marry his sweetheart, Mary Louise Viklund and then returned to action the following day. After returning from war he and Mary made their home in Pleasant Grove and later became a family of five. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, working on cars with his boys and cherished the time spent with his daughter.

He is survived by his sons Steven and David (Shalece), six grandchildren: Aubrey (Jeff), Brandon, Shayla (Heath), Colton “Tina” (Kylee), Cambry, Logan, one great grandson, Mavrick and one on the way. His grandkids loved the stories and time spent with grandpa. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary, daughter Jolene, parents and siblings.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery, Camp Williams. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 12:00 Noon – 1:30 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove prior to the services. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.
