Robert’s Obituary Robert R. (Bob) Chapman passed away peacefully on February 8, 2019 at Abington – Lansdale Hospital. Preceded in death by his wife, Anna (Hofmann) Chapman, in 2016, and sister, Barbara Ann. He is survived by his brothers, Melvin (Marlene) and David (Edna), and sisters, Shirley Wilburn and Madeline Black.

Also surviving are his children, Ron (Susan) and Ray; grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) and Samantha; and sister-in-law, Edith Schweizer-Hofmann of Switzerland. Born in Quakertown, November 29, 1932, to the late Lillian and Melvin Chapman. After attending Upper Perkiomen High School, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany as a small arms repairman and team supervisor.

During this time, he met his future wife, Anna. After returning to the States, he worked his way up to become a tool and die maker and master machinist. He moved into supervisory positions, overseeing all of the facility and equipment maintenance, at Josten’s Printing in Souderton and Keller’s Creamery in Harleysville.

Beyond being a devoted husband and father, Bob was always looking to see how things worked and how to make them function better. When a co-worker was throwing away college textbooks, Bob kept the Physics book so he could review all of the electrical notations he was using on wiring diagrams. His efforts led to six patents being created, some for improvements that engineers said were not possible.

He also had the privilege of working on some components that were used in the space program. As a child, tired of push mowing the lawn, he built his own self-propelled mower. Bob loved working in his garden, his pets, travel, and helping others.

He will surely be missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16 at Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Avenue, with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Bob’s name can be made to the Disabled Veterans Charity, PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or www. dav.org/.
