Collins, 76, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice and his family. A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 4-6 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Private Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo with Iowa River Hospice Chaplain Wendy Christianson officiating.

Robert was born on May 28, 1942, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Charles and Catherine (Dowd) Collins. Robert attended school at Otter Creek Township #5 through 8th grade and then attended Toledo High School. On June 10, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ellen Wells in Toledo, Iowa.

Robert was a farmer. He also worked at the Tama Paperboard and then for the City of Toledo for twenty-three years. Robert loved being outside.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Ellen of Toledo; four children, Jeff Collins of Urbandale, Jim (Kris) Collins of Tama, JoEllen (Joe) Cecak of Toledo, and Janelle (Tim) Quigley of Toledo; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (Don) Ebersole of Claremont, CA, and Linda (Jim) Johnston of Mercer, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Catherine Ruth Collins; and one sister, Marge Thurston. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or to the family.
