Obituary for Robert Wayne McClellan Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Robert Wayne (Bob) McClellan was called to his Heavenly rest on Thursday, June 21, 2018 with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Burneyville, Oklahoma on January 16, 1932 to Robert Lois and Maisie Mae (Koons) McClellan. He spent most of his growing up years in South Central Oklahoma and also Dallas, Texas.
He worked with his father building houses there from the time he was 12 or 13. He built his first house by himself when he was 14 years old and was glad to see that it is still standing. Robert started school in Sunflower, Texas and graduated from high school in Lancaster, Texas in 1951.
He then joined the United States Marine Corp and served as a mechanic on aircraft used during the Korean War. He served in the reserves until 1957. In 1953 he married Sonya Hunsiker in Anaheim, California, to that union was born six sons and one daughter.
After coming back to Oklahoma in 1953, he became a contractor building turn-key homes in the Oklahoma City and Corpus Christi, Texas area. He continued in the building trade until 1987, when he became an EPA and farm home inspector with Gales Engineering as they worked with small towns providing good water systems. He then began making survey stakes for the various contractors and electric co-ops in the area.
He was their favorite “Builder Bob”. In 1978 he married the one who captured his heart, Peggy Jean (Gilliam) Gibbons. They joined their families of 12 children and had 40 years of Life, Love, Respect, and lots of ups and downs, but mostly Love and fun.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two nieces; Marcy and Katie Clemmons and two sons by marriage, Scott and Jeff Gibbons and sister in law; Bobbie Dause; and brother in law; Billy Gilliam; mother and father in law; Frank and Dorothy Gilliam. He is survived by his wife Peggy of the home; sisters; Wanda Clemmons of Tecumseh, Sadie Hild and husband Kenneth of Edmond, Susan Bennett of Purcell; brother, Richard of Noble, Dan and wife Esmerelda of Bethany, Hope Brooks and husband Lanny of Edmond, and David of the Philippines; children, Robert and wife Tina, Mark and wife Maura, Michael and wife Liz, Aaron and wife Magda, Tammy Kuka and husband Tim all of California and Patrick of Tahlequah and Adam of Ohio, Mark Gibbons and Krista Coombs and husband Roger all of Fort Gibson and Terry Beutelschies and husband Rick of Tahlequah; twenty-three grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, many loved ones and friends. Bob always put home, family and the Lord’s Church first.
He loved to share the gospel of Jesus with anyone who would listen. He studied his Bible with expectations of finding guidance and comfort from God. He always prayed for his children and grandchildren to be believers.
Thanks to family, friends, neighbors, and New Century Hospice for the compassionate care. A visitation will be held, Sunday, June 24, 2018, with family receiving friends 1:00PM-3:00PM at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson. Funeral services will be 12:00PM, Monday, June 25, 2018 at Fort Gibson Church of Christ with Minister Dan Rouse officiating.
Committal prayers and interment will follow at 2:00PM in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Joey McClellan, Mike McClellan, Clay Russell, Jacob Coombes, Roger Coombes and Pat McClellan serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Dr. Michael Hammonds, Carl Gales, Dero Carter, Cowboy Swain and Rick Beutelschies. The family of Robert Wayne McClellan has entrusted his services and burial to Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home.
