Obituary of Robert Sprauer Sr. Robert W. G. Sprauer, Sr, 85, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Born on September 25th, 1933, in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (McDonald) Sprauer. Robert married Barbara Garrison on October 29, 1960 in Bronx, NY and Barbara predeceased him on March 11, 2004 Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1956 – 1958.

A truck driver all his life, Robert was a member of the Teamsters Union. Throughout the years, he drove for many companies- most predominately for Coca Cola, Spoor Lasher Concrete in Poughkeepsie, and Dutchess Quarry in Poughkeepsie, NY. Active in his community and his children’s lives, he served as a Cub Scout Master of Pack 28 in Rhinebeck, he coached minor league baseball in Rhinebeck for many years, and was a “softball cheerleader”.

An avid auto-racing fan, Robert also raced at Accord Speedway in Accord, NY. He enjoyed the outdoors and particularly hunting and fishing. Robert is survived by his family, including his children, Robert W. Sprauer, Jr. of Rhinebeck, NY, Karl (Lesley) Sprauer of Pleasant Valley, NY, and Deborah Hayden of Rhinebeck, NY; his grandchildren, Donald Joseph (Emma Grima) Hayden of Elizaville, NY, Robert Sprauer, III of Staatsburg, NY, Christopher (Adam) Mostel of Schenectady, NY, Alexandra Sprauer of Pleasant Valley, NY, and Steven Sprauer of Pleasant Valley, NY; his great grandson, Owen Hayden; a nephew Russell (Diana) Sprauer of Elizaville, NY; along with extended family and numerous friends.

His “grand dogs” – Rocks, Jasmine, Brynley, Jasper, & Dexter, also survive him. In addition to his wife, a son, Lawrence Sprauer, a brother, Joseph Sprauer, and a nephew, Joseph Sprauer predeceased him. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday February 18, 2019 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019 at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck, NY. Rev. Megan Sanders will officiate.

Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck. Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY.
