Rocco E. Zappia passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on January 31, 2019 at Country Meadows South in York, PA after a short illness. He was born on August 15, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Anna (Marra) Zappia. Rocco also resided in Island Park, NY, Central Islip, NY and Midlothian, VA.

Rocco was preceded in death by his brothers, Anthony and John and sisters, Mary Zappia, Adele Zappia and Grace Zappia Werner. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eileen of York, PA and children,, Kathleen Zappia Gould and her husband, Robert of York, PA and son, John E. and his wife, Denise Zappia of Hauppauge, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon Gould and his wife, Ashton Streavig of Springfield, VA and Allison Gould Alexander and her husband, Daniel Alexander of North Bethesda, MD.

His great grandson, Beckley Rocco Gould, of Springfield, VA was also a great of joy to “Rocky”. He also was loved by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Rocky had a long career with the Town of Islip in Long Island, NY.

He retired to Midlothian, VA in 1993 and York, PA in 2016. In younger days, he enjoyed fishing and CB radios and was active in the Knights of Columbus at St. John of God in Central Islip, NY and St. Edward the Confessor in Richmond, VA. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd.

, York, PA. A funeral mass will immediately follow visitation at the church. Interment will take place in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY later in the spring.

The family requests that memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Maryknoll Missionaries at www. maryknoll.org. Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
