Rodney K. Lester November 27, 1946 – February 07, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Rod K. Lester, age 72 of Fairview, Michigan, passed away at Mid Michigan Medical Center in West Branch, Michigan on Thursday, February 7, 2019. Rod was the oldest of four boys; Rod, Rick, Ron, and Randy; born to Edna and the late Melvin Lester in Flint, Michigan. The family moved to Missouri when the boys were young, then moved back to Flint.

Rod served our country in Viet Nam in the Navy. He was a talented musician and singer. He played in Florida and in Detroit, Flint, and Owosso areas with The Sound System and Grand Funk Railroad.

Rod moved to Fairview and worked on a horse ranch. He also played music for Chester’s Habit. Rod had a lot of best friends over the years.

Horses and music were what he enjoyed the most. Rod leaves behind his companion of 20 years: Trudy Holberton; his mother Edna; 2 brothers; a son Mike (Shiela) and granddaughter Kaliegh of Flint; and 2 nephews Ron and Paul Lester. Rod was known as “Papa Rod” to Trudy’s children: Jim (Cindy) Handrich of Spring Lake, MI; Stephanie (Louie) Kamen of Comins, MI; and Travis Handrich of Kalamazoo, MI; and grandchildren James & Maddie Handrich and Shane Snyder.

He also leaves behind many good friends. He was preceded in death by his father Melvin and 1 brother Rick. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI.
