Roger A. Hernandez, 80, passed away on April 19, 2018 at his La Junta home. He was born on Dec. 8, 1937 in Segundo, Colorado to Roger & Eutimia (Vensor) Hernandez.

He graduated from Primero High School in 1956. Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1956 – 1961. He married Carolyn Barron on September 15, 1957.

Roger retired from Amtrak in 1999. Roger enjoyed coin collecting, gardening, story telling and was an avid Denver Bronco’s fan. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Edwin (Sarah) Hernandez and Joyce (Steve) Moreno; grandchildren, Erin Hernandez (Adam Kandle), Sara Hernandez (Gabriel Aguilera), Angela (Phillip) Vigil, Douglas & Courtney Moreno; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle & Madelyn Aguilera, and Kiley & Damian Vigil; dear family friends, Jerry, Tammy & Tayla Fleischacker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe Hernandez, sisters, Virginia Castillo and Palmer Baca. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.
