Roger Thompson January 10, 1933 – May 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Roger Thompson, 86, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks. Roger Thompson was born January 10, 1933 in Carpio, ND the son of Cecil and Emma (Beck) Thompson. He was raised and educated in Carpio and graduated from Carpio High School.

Roger graduated in 1955 with a degree in Education from Minot State Teachers College in Minot, ND and taught for one year in Drake, ND. Roger entered the United States Army in June of 1956 at Minot. He was stationed at Long Beach, Long Island, NY and Fort Richardson in Anchorage, AK.

Roger married Patricia Kelly of Minot, ND on January 25, 1957 in St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. He was honorably discharged from military service in 1958. Roger and Patricia remained in Alaska and Roger taught school from 1958 to 1961 at Abbot Loop Middle School in Anchorage.

He went on to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Music from the University of North Dakota in 1969. Roger taught in Riverdale, ND from 1961 to 1969 and Carl Ben Eielson and Twinning Elementary Schools on the Grand Forks Air Force Base from 1969 until his retirement in 1991. Following retirement, he was employed part time at Sears and Valley Golf Course.

Roger and Patricia moved to Fargo, ND after the flood of 1997 and they became active in the Foster Grandparent Program in Fargo and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo. They returned to Grand Forks in 2004. He is survived by his wife Patricia; his children, Mary (Allen) Sieben, Grafton, ND, John (Patricia) Thompson, East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren, Dr. Michael (Kaitlin) Thompson, D.D.S. Lonsdale, MN, Patrick ( Kaitlin) Thompson, Grand Forks, ND, Matthew (Fiancée, Jessica Foster) Thompson, Bremerton, WA, Katie Kelly Sieben, Grafton, ND; 4 great-grandchildren one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Mavis Kaufman, Jeanette Gebhardt, Duane Thompson and Don Thompson. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Family Greeting: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday.

Interment: Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND. Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
