Obituary for Rolf W. Schweigardt COLONIE – Rolf W. Schweigardt entered into eternal life on Christmas Day, December 25, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was 84 years of age. Born in Albany on April 20, 1934, Rolf was the oldest son of Herman and Elsie (Teufer) Schweigardt.
He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and furthered his education at Cobleskill Agricultural and Technical School. Following college, Rolf was employed by Monroe Calculating Company (later Monroe Business Machine Company) in Guilderland for several years. Rolf later was employed by the Town of Colonie for 40 years and retired as the Colonie Town Justice Court Clerk on December 1, 1999.
In his retirement years, Rolf enjoyed his home, gardening, tending to his lawn and spending time with his family and friends. He was a long-time member of the West Albany Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the German-American Club of Albany, the Colonie Lodge of Elks and the New York Association of Magistrates Court Clerks, where he was named clerk of the year for the State of New York in 1997. Rolf’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Samaritan Hospital ICU and to the nurses and staff of the Community Hospice for their dedicated care and support during his illness.
Rolf was the much loved husband for 56 years of Antoinette (Toni) Schweigardt; loving father of Andrew (Renee) Schweigardt of Lexington, KY. Brian (Julianne) Schweigardt of Queensbury, NY and Wendy (Jay) O’Brien of Waterford, NY; cherished grandfather of Mathew, Patrick, Anna, Jacob and Katie Schweigardt and Ian O’Brien; the dear brother of the late Reverend Erwin H. Schweigardt who died on July 16, 2018; cousin of Paul and Mary Jane Teufer of Loudonville, NY. He is further survived by family in Germany.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Joseph Busch on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10 am in Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Albany, NY 12211. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Friends are invited and may visit with Rolf’s family on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 5 until 8 pm, at the Bowen & Parker Brothers Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd. , Albany, NY 12208 or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O.
