Ronald Churchard Sr., aged 83, of Sparta, passed away peacefully in his sleep. Ron was born in Grand Rapids before moving to Sparta later in his life. Ron was an artistic man who excelled in woodworking.

He was known for the beautiful and unique walking sticks that he carved. He loved taking his dog, Bandit for long walks. His family spent many Sunday afternoons visiting with him.

He always had a variety of cold pop in the fridge and suckers on the coffee table for his sons and grandchildren. He was a strong man who considered himself a cancer survivor even while continuing to need treatments. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheri Baughman (Churchard); his son, Michael Churchard; his daughter in law, Patricia Churchard; and his brother, Wally Churchard.

He is survived by his sons Ronald Jr., Gary, Thomas, Joseph, and John. He is survived by his sister and her husband, Judy and Guy Kovera and their children Kevin and Craig. He is survived by his grandchildren, Dillon, Laura, Tyler, Rachael, Tommy, Emily, and Walter.

It was Ron’s wish to not have a memorial service. However, in lieu of flowers, people may send donations to the American Cancer Society.
