Richmondville- Ronald N. Maurice, 89, of Creamery Road, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Born March 19, 1929 in Fitchburg, MA, he was the son of Eugene and Regina (St. Laurent) Maurice. Ron was a United States Navy veteran serving his country for four years before receiving an honorable discharge as an electricians mate.

He held at MA license as a stationary boiler fireman, was a dairy farmer for 13 years in Warnerville and was a member of the Farm Bureau. For 33 years, Ron was the proprietor of REMS Plastics in Richmondville before selling to his son. He was a member of NYS Plastics Technicians and Engineers.

Active in his community, Ron served as the Town Assessor of Richmondville for 9 years, twice as chairman, trustee for the Village of Richmondville, a member of the Comprehensive Planning Board, an exempt member of the Richmondville Fire Dept. , member of American Legion Post 249 where he was commander for 2 years. Ron was a volunteer for 20 years for Catskill Area Hospice.

Ron was a bus driver for 4 years for the former Cobleskill School District. He also worked at North American Cement Plant for 4 years and part-time for D&H Railroad for 2 years. Founding president of the Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad, he served as an EMT and an instructor for advanced first aid.

Ron was a member of the former St. Anna’s Roman Catholic Church in Summit where he served on the church council as president at one time. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose (Fontaine) Maurice, in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Carol A. (Moot) Maurice, whom he married September 23, 1989; his children: Ann (Richard) Lape of Richmondville, Jane (George) Candido of Root, Tami Reed of Bamberg, SC, David (Marybeth) Maurice of Schenectady, and Paul (Rose) Maurice of Richmondville; step-son, Brian (Jean) Davis of Great Valley, NY; loved by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave. , Cobleskill, with Deacon Stephen Lape presiding. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church from noon to 1 PM prior to the service.

Private burial will take place in Richmondville Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad, PO Box 11, Richmondville, NY 12149. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
