Obituary for Ronald Newfield Ronald Blanton Newfield, 77, of Fletcher passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2018 at his home in Fletcher. He was born on December 9, 1940 son of the late Ronald and Marguerite (Kern) Goza . Ronald proudly served our country during the Vietnam war in the US Air Force.

Ron loved anything that moved from WWII flying machines to Studebaker sports cars. His favorite was his 1963 Studebaker Avanti which he had just begun to restore. One of his favorite vehicles was his 40 plus year old Roper lawn mower.

He also loved Indian motorcycles and railroad trains. Ron built his log home nearly 50 years ago and continued to improve and add to it over the years making it a comfortable and safe haven for his family. He was a very responsible and dependable civic minded man who held offices as a constable, Justice of the Peace for 38 years and also a Trustee of the Fletcher Historical Society.

A hard and conscientious worker, he was an employee for IBM for 38 years while pursuing and completing higher educational goals. Ron was a member of the Masons completing a rank as high as the 33rd degree becoming a local lodge leader. While serving in the US Air Force, he gained professional experience in heavy ground radar which was very valuable later to him as an electrical engineer.

He was exceptionally generous with his vegetable garden, growing pumpkins, squash and other crops sharing them with humans and the wildlife which abounded on his land. He was an exceptional father and husband who will be greatly missed by those whom he loved and who loved him in return. He is survived by his loving wife Regina (Campbell) Newfield, his daughter Heather Newfield-Igoe and husband Daniel, his brother John Newfield and wife Bette, 3 sisters Mariana Hayes, Patricia Ungarelli, Margurite Breslin and husband James, brother-in-law Larry Campbell, two grandchildren Sarah Alexis Igoe-Roy, Evan Daniel Igoe, two great grandchildren Adalia Regina Roy, Anya Daniella Roy, several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday April 22, 2018 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday April 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Binghamville Church with Reverend Ellen Ravelin officiating. Memorial contributions in Ronald’s memory may be made to Wounded Warriors and Make a Wish Foundations or charity of your choice.
