After several years of battling dementia, Ronald Schieb succumbed to its effects early Wednesday morning. Ron was born the third of five children on June 1, 1943 to Harold and Dorothy (Hubbell) Schieb. He attended Sylvania High School and met and wed Karen Grindle of Toledo in 1964 after the two were involved in a fortunate car accident.

The couple had three children. In recent years, Ron struck up a close friendship with Rose Barnes that continued, to varying degrees, until his death. She was a calming influence on him and their shared experiences and misadventures were often the subject of fond recollection.

He was extremely close to Rose’s children and grandchildren, regarding them as he did his own. Anyone who worked with Ron will tell you he was a hard-working man. A Laborer for Local 500 for many years, he worked for Commercial Excavating, Gleason Construction, and Crestline Paving & Excavating before going out on his own to establish Toledo Catch Basin and Schieb Concrete Construction, Inc

He expected much from those that worked around him and for him, but he led by example, and taught many what, “Earning a day’s pay” looked like. He continued to work long after losing a leg and remained active until his ailment sidelined him in recent years. He is survived by sister Nancy Rolon, brother Robert, son Ronald Schieb Jr., daughters Loriann (Geno) Adoline and Jennifer Mominee, grandchildren Erik Schieb and Drew Mominee, great-grandaughter Lillian Schieb, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and extended family, Rose Barnes, Steve, Bruce, Wendy, and all the grandkids he held close in his heart.

As well, he is survived by his little puppy companion, Abby. Family and friends are invited to Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 2:00pm. A memorial service will follow at 4:00pm.

We will celebrate Ron’s life afterward at one of his favorite spots, The Barn, on Centennial Rd. in Sylvania at 5:30pm. Please join us.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to your local hospice facility, which provides comfort and relief in such extraordinary circumstances to our loved ones.
