Obituary for Rose J Ryan Rose Ryan, 87 years of age of Minden, passed away on January 14, 2018 at Kearney County Health Services Long Term Care in Minden. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden with Msgr. Paul Witt and Fr.
Kishore Gorantla officiating. Interment will be held following services at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Heartwell. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January, 18, 2018 at the Craig Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Rose Jeanelle Hoban was born January 28, 1930 at Heartwell, NE to Frank and Roxie (Porterfield) Hoban.
She grew up in the Heartwell area, attended Heartwell High School and graduated from Minden High School in the class of 1947. Rose worked at the Minden Creamery and the Hested’s Store during her high school years. After graduation, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Heartwell State Bank.
On October 16, 1948 Rose married Eugene (Gene) Ryan at Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell. This union was blessed with two sons and three daughters. Rose and Gene farmed and made their home on the Ryan-Pantenburg Family Farm east of Heartwell.
They moved to Minden upon retirement in 1996. Rose was active in her church and community organizations. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, St. John’s Parish Council of Catholic Women, Holy Family Catholic Church, Holy Family Altar Society, Board Member of the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
She served as Past President of the Hastings Deanery Council of Catholic Women, Past President of the Orleans Deanery Council of Catholic Women, and was a CCD teacher at Holy Family Catholic Church. Rose also served on the Kearney County Community Foundation Board of Directors. She enjoyed volunteering at the Minden Opera House, Bethany Home, the Kearney County Museum and East Elementary School in Minden.
Her favorite hobbies were dancing with Gene, playing cards in card clubs, games with her grandchildren and following her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She is survived by her husband, Eugene of Minden, sons and their spouses, Tom (Deb) Ryan of Lincoln, Terry (Connie) Ryan of Gibbon, daughters Karen (Kirk) Stubbendeck of East Amherst, NY, Mary Jo (Dean) Schwenka of Heartwell and Julie (Matt) Hill of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Anabel Gallagher of Kenesaw, brother-in-law Michael (Cheryl) Ryan of Minden, numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jeremy Schwenka, great grandchild Mary Gabriel Brass, siblings and their spouses; John (Winifred) Hoban, Mary Virginia (Maurice) Horan, Unadel Hansen, Roxie (Robert) DeWitt, James (Rosemary) Hoban, an infant brother and brother-in-law Paul Gallagher.
