Rose Mary Territa, age 83 years, of Belle Chasse, passed away in her home on Sunday, February 3, 2019. Rose Mary was born in her family home in Belle Chasse on January 6, 1936 to Vincent and Sarah (Potier) Protti. She was raised in Belle Chasse and lived most of her life there.

To many who knew her, Rose Mary was an exceptional woman. She was gifted with two green thumbs and created beautiful flower-filled yards wherever she lived. Roses were her favorite flower and at one time, she had over 70 rose bushes in her yard, much to the delight of passersby.

She was also a skilled seamstress and sewed beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren. She took up painting in her 70’s and left behind a small gallery of wonderful art. Rose Mary had compassion for animals and provided a loving home for several rescued pets during her lifetime.

She also loved to fish and spent many happy hours with her line in the water. In her 40’s, Rose Mary returned to school and became a LPN, working at Belle Chasse State School then Hammond State School for over 20 years, until her retirement. As a young woman, she and a close friend, Adele Valliant, along with 8 children, traveled throughout the US, camping out in National Parks, gifting her children with lifelong memories of adventure and extraordinary places.

She was an independent woman of strong moral character, perseverance and ingenuity, who found creative solutions to manage the limitations she experienced with aging. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was highly respected and much loved by her family and friends. Rose Mary is survived by her two daughters, Nanette (Danny Prejean) Territa-Prejean of Lake Charles, Sharon Territa of Lake Charles and one son, Michael (Tina) Territa of Belle Chasse; Granddaughters, Amber (David) Dorr, Caitlyn (Gary) Williams, Brianna (Cody) Sciacca and Amanda Hirstius; grandson, Anthony “Tony” (Ashleigh) Territa; 11 great grandchildren and brothers, Nicholas Protti and Bill (Romona) Protti as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Anthony Territa and her sister, Nancy (Protti) Foerster. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Thursday evening, February 7, 2019 from 6PM until 10PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday morning, February 8, 2019 from 8AM until 11AM.
