Rosemarie Ann Burns Cummings , October 13, 1927 — March 24, 2018

Rosemarie Ann (Burns) Cummings, 91, formerly of Rumford, RI, died peacefully at Hawthorne House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Freeport, ME on March 24, 2018. She was the wife of the late Roger T. Cummings, Sr. Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late William F. Burns and Catherine (Shanahan) Burns. She lived in Long Beach, CA, later moved to Rumford, RI where she raised her family.

In 1979, she and husband, Roger moved to North Conway, NH to own and operate Sunnyside Lodge. Together, they moved back to Rumford in 1986; Roger passed away in 1998. Rosemarie continued to live in the home where she raised her family until she moved to North Conway in 2009 to be close to her son, Roger Cummings, Jr. and his family.

Eventually, she moved to be near her daughter, Rosemary Cummings of Brunswick, ME in 2010. She was a graduate of St. Xavier’s High School (1945) and Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing (1948), her career as a Registered Nurse spanned over 46 years, in diverse professional roles in MA, CA, RI, and NH. She loved being a nurse and was highly respected wherever she practiced; she retired in 1994.

She was an active member of both Alumni Associations. She enjoyed being with her family, reading, sewing, bowling, dancing and offering health advice. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Cummings of Brunswick, ME and her children Allison Henry, her husband Doug Hutcheon and their daughter Ramona Rose Hutcheon of Burbank, CA; Rosemary’s son, Michael Henry of Portland, ME; Robert Cummings and his son Chandler Hearn of Providence, RI; Richard Cummings and his wife Paula Cummings of Port St. Lucie, FL; Reid Cummings, his wife Julie (Sadowski) Cummings and their children Griffin and Meredith Cummings of Frankford, DE; Roger Cummings, JR, his wife Julie (Santuccio) Cummings and their children Anna and Jaelin Cummings of North Conway, NH; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter Coleen Cummings. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI with John Tormey officiating. Her burial will be with her husband in the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hawthorne House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Swing Chair Fund in Rosemarie’s name: 6 County Road, Freeport, ME 04032. Her favorite activity at the end of her life was swinging on the swing in the garden.
