Obituary for Mr. Roy “Dude” Roland Currie “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”.
Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV) Roy Roland Currie, husband, father grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at his home after a lengthy illness at the age of 89 years. Roy was born on Thursday, April 18, 1929 in Brownsville, Tennessee to the union of Leola Wills Currie and Eddie B. Currie. He professed Christ at an early age and united with the Willow Grove Baptist Church of Brownsville.
He attended Haywood County Public Schools. He served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, receiving an honorable discharge. Roy married Mary Jane Claybrook Currie.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in his younger years, he relished his annual fishing trips to Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. He loved beautiful shiny cars, especially convertibles. Roy was formerly employed with General Motors Corporation, from which he retired.
Mr. Currie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Mary Jane Claybrook Currie of Saginaw, MI, two sons, Kelly Scout Currie of Saginaw, and Dr. Kenne Stacy (Lorraine) of Ypsilanti, MI; two grandsons, Camden Bryce Currie and Callen Spencer Currie, both of Ypsilanti, MI; two brothers, Eddie Wise and Johnnie Wise, both of Brownsville, TN; five sisters, Beulah Bradford, Margie Lewis, Virginia Kimble all of Brownsville, TN, Mary Edith Fouse of Jackson, TN, and Jacqueline Currie of Tuscaloosa, AL; four special nieces, Patricia Spaulding of Monterey CA, Barbara Green, Phyllis Estell, and Marlene Powell all of Pearland, TX; one special nephew, Charles Currie of Decatur, IL, Special cousins, Carolyn Currie of Saginaw, MI, Maxine Coleman and Charlotte Currie both of Brownsville, TN; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Leola Wills Currie and Eddie B. Currie, and one sister, Leatrice Scott. The family extends special thanks to Mrs. Minnie Reese, her daughter, Ms. Marie Reese and her grandson, Marcelez Hamilton for their consistent and compassionate care and assistance throughout the lengthy illness of our love one.

Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Johnson Street, Saginaw, Michigan 48607 with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Rodrick Smith will officiate with interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. Viewing will be from 10:00 am until time of service.
