Obituary for Roy Goldsmith Roy Goldsmith passed away peacefully on January 17th at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 17, 1950 in Glens Falls, New York. Roy attended Warrensburg Central School and graduated in 1968.
After High School, Roy worked his way up the General Electric organization from an apprentice and left after 25 years as a highly regarded Group Manager. While at GE he earned his BS and MBA from Western New England College. He then began a 21 year career with Barnes Aerospace in Windsor, Connecticut and retired as Executive Vice President of Global Business Development and Strategic Partnerships.
Nothing was more important to him than his family. His memories will be cherished by the people he loved the most. His high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Kathy.
His son, Jason (Amanda) from Ballston Spa and his daughter, Lindsay from Albany. His grand daughter Sophia was the love of his life. He is also survived by his brother John (Nancy) from Rockport, MA, and sisters Ellen Wydra (Joe) from Millsboro, Delaware and Nancy Moses (Cliff) from Morrisville, NY.
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Affectionally referred to as “De Unc” by his nieces and nephews, he was a role model to all and inspired them by his compassion, competitiveness, and concern for everyone. Roy loved the New York Yankees, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Rams, and Syracuse University teams.
He was frustrated by each of those teams for many years but never gave up on them. He also spent many years training for and running marathons and triathlons. Roy always had a love for music and the guitar and as late as this fall played guitar for a local band Bobby G and the Ridgetones.
He took great pride in watching his grand daughter play soccer for Albany City School and various Elite Travel teams. As many know, he was infatuated with the game of golf and was a member of Ellington Ridge Country Club for over 20 years. Throughout his career he was active with various organizations, including the Board of Governors for Aerospace Industries Association.
He also served on the Board for CREC’s Academy of Aerospace and Engineering School in Windsor and consulted for various aerospace companies. He also volunteered to oversee United Way golf tournaments. Our lives are forever enriched and he will never be forgotten.
He was “Superman” with a super heart and one of a kind. Calling hours will be on Saturday, January 26th from 11am to 12:30 followed by a brief service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy’s name to Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.
