Roy L. Maners July 15, 1927 – January 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Roy Leon Maners went to be with Jesus on January 26th, 2019. The youngest of six children, Roy was born on July 15th, 1927, to Walter and Maggie Belle (McGinnis) Maners. His mother died when he was 7 and at the age of 15, he moved in with his oldest sister, Ethel Clark and her husband, Don.

He began attending Plainfield High School and graduated in 1946. He joined the United States Army shortly thereafter. Stationed on the 38th Parallel, he served for almost two years while the United States was helping to liberate South Korea before the Korean War began in 1950.

After his service, he married Wanda Lou Andrews on his birthday, July 15th, 1950. He learned the building trade from his father-in-law, Charles (Joe) Andrews, and worked building homes and commercial buildings in the Hendricks County area for many years. A lover of music, Roy sang in a men’s quartet at church as a young man and in the early 1960’s, he and Wanda opened “The House Of Sound,” a teen dance club in Plainfield, Indiana, where many regional and some national bands performed.

Roy enjoyed watching Indiana University basketball, the Indiana Pacers, and the Indianapolis Colts – as long as they were playing well. He also enjoyed caring for his beloved furry companion, Pebbles. Family was everything to Roy and he loved them well.

A believer in perseverance, he never gave up and had a fighting spirit until the very end. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Maggie (McGinnis) Maners, his in-laws, Charles and Arla (Wilkinson) Andrews, three sisters; Ethel Clark, Cecil Stultz, and Alma Price, two brothers; Ennis Maners and Kenneth Maners and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wanda (Andrews) Maners, daughters; Jan (Dan) Brancolini and Juli (Bill) Hood, granddaughter; Olivia Hood, three nieces and one nephew.

A celebration of life service will be held at Conkle Funeral Home, 76 North Avon Avenue, Avon, IN 46123, on Saturday, February 2nd, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hendricks County Animal Shelter or Donate Life Indiana.
