Ruby Ethelyn (Pollman) Huls, 93, of Beatrice formerly rural Pickrell passed away at Beatrice Good Samaritan on Sunday, April 15, 2018. She was born February 23, 1925 to George and Antje “Ina” (Remmers) Pollman on a farm near Oketo, KS. She grew up on the family farm near Wymore and was baptized on March 8, 1925 and confirmed on April 10, 1939 at Immanuel (Stateline) Lutheran Church by Pastor Jansen.

On February 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Henry Huls at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed near Cortland for three years and then moved to a farm west of Pickrell where she resided until 2014.
Ruby was proud to be a farm wife and homemaker. She was a skilled seamstress and made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as gardening, canning and cooking. She valued her German heritage and was famous for baking zwieback.
Relatives and friends were treated to this along with hot tea whenever they stopped by. The grandchildren really loved the pancakes, donuts and mac and cheese she made for them. She was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church of Pickrell.
She sang in the choir and was active with the women of the church and loved quilting with the ladies group. She was a long-time member of the Thrifty Workers Extension Club. Her greatest joys were socializing with friends while playing cards and dancing with Henry.
She especially loved being with the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby is survived by her three children and spouses: Bonnie (William) Barfield of Lincoln, Loren (Mary) Huls of Pickrell and David (Kathy) Huls of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Tamara (James) Schuldt, Susan (Scott) Crawford, Benjamin (Michelle) Huls, Timothy (Rebecca) Huls, Matthew (Jenny) Huls, Eric (Jessie) Huls, Sarah Huls and Andrew (Amanda) Huls; 14 great-grandchildren: Cody Schuldt, Allegra and Rhett Crawford, Ashton and Katelyn Huls; Noah, Isaac, Emilia and Madeline Huls, Griffin and Sylvia Huls; Elsie and Sam Huls and Bria Cades; brother, Roger (Joyce) Pollman of Wymore; sister-in-law, Charleene Pollman of Wymore; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry in 2005; grandson, Steven Huls; brother, Marvin Pollman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Carrie Huls; step-father-in-law, Ernest Overbeck; brother-in-law, Ralph Huls and wife Dorothy; sister-in-law, Ann Gerdes and husband George; nieces, Loma Sack and Jeanette Schultz.
We will remember Ruby for her faith in God, love of family and friends and her wonderful sense of living life to the fullest. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery.
A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church on Thursday. A memorial has been established to Christ Lutheran Church or church cemetery with Dwayne and Nora Zimmerman in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from noon Tuesday until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Thursday.
