On the snowy day of December 9, 2018, Ruth Byrd slipped free of the cares of this world and entered into her eternal home in Heaven. A native of McDowell County, Ruth was born and raised in the beautiful community of North Cove where she learned the value of hard work and honed her independent nature. She was born on September 24, 1927 to the late James and Allie Hollifield Byrd.

Known as “Ruthie” or “Cleo” to those who knew and loved her, she cherished the friendships of those close to her as they did hers. Her love of music was very influential in her life and she particularly enjoyed the old Hymns, especially Amazing Grace. Ruth was also very fond of the preaching of Billy Graham and, like so many others, mourned his passing, but now shares a home with him on the other side, rejoicing in and praising the Lord Jesus Christ.

Her beloved sister, Ruby Mae Byrd, preceded her in death on July 18, 2012. Particularly saddened by her passing are her special friends, Jan Ramsey, Vicki Burton, and Amber Jornigan. A memorial service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Marion, where she was a member for most of her life.

Dr. Scott Hagaman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Senior Adult Bus Fund at 99 N. Main Street, Marion, NC 28752.
