Obituary for Sam Robert Serdar Sam Robert “Bob” Serdar, 91, passed away on June 14th, 2018 at the Villages Hospice House in Central Florida. Bob shared life over the last 67 years with his loving and dedicated wife Dolores Mae Serdar, daughter of long time Waukegan residents, Lester and Marie Mitchell. Born July 5th, 1926 in Waukegan, IL, he was the son of “Paul” Pavao Serdar and “Mary” Marija Japuncic from Croatia.

He belonged to St. Anastasia Church, in Waukegan, IL. , later becoming a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Leesburg, Florida, where he looked forward to Thursday’s when he served as a volunteer helping the community at their thrift store. Bob joined the US Army after high school toward the end of World War II and served at Fort Sheridan, IL.

He graduated from University of Illinois on the G.I. Bill with an undergraduate degree in teaching in 1951, later receiving a Master of Science in School Administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. , in 1954. He was an educator and started teaching at Central School in North Chicago, the grade school he attended as a young boy.

He then taught at Neal Jr. High School in North Chicago between 1954 and 1957 and later in 1957 he returned to Central School, later called Hart School, and became the Principle. He enjoyed golf, fishing, tending to his Purple Martin houses, gardening and most of all dancing with his forever wife. Bob will be remembered for his generosity, and service to children, but mostly for his love and dedication to his family.

Bob is survived by his wonderful wife Dolores, his children and their spouses, Susan and Richard Kolp, Gary and Deborah Serdar, David and Sandi Serdar, and John Serdar, by his loving sister Violet Andersen, his grandchildren Shane, Casey and Kyle Vowels, Sam Serdar, and Geoffrey and Sarah Serdar. He is also survived by numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, located at 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085, on Monday July 9, 2018 from 5 to 7:30 pm, with funeral mass at Saint Anastasia Church, on Tuesday July 10th, 2018 at 10am, located at 624 Douglas Ave.
