Samira Rose Sumner, young age of 22, “Waonsida’win” which means “Woman with Compassion” journeyed to the spirit world on Friday, March 1, 2019 from her home in Bemidji, MN. She was born in Bemidji, MN on April 2, 1996 to Connie Anderson and Stuart Sumner. Samira was a homemaker and provider for her children and her brothers Bryson and Tyson.

She loved spending time with her friends and was always there for them when they needed her. Samira always loved making people laugh, going to the casino and doing her make-up and nails. Samira had a very memorable and unique sense of style.

She truly enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by her loving mother Connie and also her loving father Stuart. Family welcoming Samira Rose to the spirit world are her brother; Daniel “JR” Defoe, aunt; Ramona Sumner and cousins; Jordan Sumner and Simon Pacheco.

She leaves behind her children; Az’Myra Lastarr Sumner and Nathan Aaron Sumner, mother; Connie (Guy) Anderson of Bemidji, father; Stuart Sumner of Red Lake, sisters; Danielle Defoe of Red Lake, Katie Cobenais of Lexington, KY and Leanne Pacheco of Bemidji, brothers; Derrick Defoe of Red Lake, Bryson and Tyson Sumner both of Bemidji, Maurice Cobenais of Minneapolis and Darren Cobenais of St. Paul, aunties; Joanie Neadeau and Shirley Willey, uncles; Robert “Minnow” (Shelly) Anderson, Roy (Pamela) Anderson, Robert “Whitey” (Sheri) Anderson, Joseph (Marlena) Anderson and William “Papa” (Thelma) May, numerous cousins and too many friends to mention. A wake for Samira will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 6th and continue until her 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Friday, March 8th all being held at the New Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Pallbearers for Samira will be Roland Roy, Todd Anderson, Justin Spears, Jordan Drouillard, Bryson Sumner, Tyson Sumner, Lydell Defoe, Duane Neadeau and Adrian White.

Her honorary pallbearers are Danielle Defoe, Katie Cobenais, Leanne Pacheco, Cheyenne Norris, Kristina Anderson, Mariah Defoe, Victoria Becerra, Alexis Brun, Angel Sumner, Leticia Sumner, Mia Sumner, Kayla Anderson, Vivian Washington, Tiffany Vizenor, Connie Hill, Sharae Nevitt and Vicki Neadeau. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Red Lake, MN following her Friday service. Samira’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.
