As Sam would say, “It’s a beautiful day, because God made it” and Sam was able to meet Jesus face to face. Samuel Paul Breining was born August 30, 1937, in Williamsport, and was called home on April, 28, 2018, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital with his family near. Sam was a kind hearted, generous man with a bit of a stubborn streak and he loved his family.

He was the son of John A. Breining and Harriett L. (Huffman) Ludwig and was the brother of two sisters, Carol Breining, of Williamsport and Jean Delk, whom predeceased him this past February. He and his beloved wife, Barbara A. (Burns) Breining, celebrated 37 years of marriage this past January. He was an amazing father and is survived by his children and step-children that all lovingly knew him as Dad: Wayne Breining, of Williamsport, Neal (Constance) Breining, of Indianapolis, Virginia (Bill) Weigle, of Trout Run, Dustin Breining, Mark (Gretchen) Chrisenberry, all of Pittsburgh, Tim Chrisenberry, of Williamsport and Taffy Lechner, of California.

He was predeceased in death by his first born son, Andrew Breining. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and was predeceased by one grandson, Patrick Breining. Sam enjoyed being out in the woods while he was growing up and his love for being in the country followed him into adulthood.

He could often be found looking around for a Pennsylvania wild animal sighting while driving on back roads or picking fresh berries from the bush to enjoy. During Sam’s life he enjoyed tending a garden, metal detecting, and many types of collectibles including stamps, coins, and Pez dispensers. He strived to pass along his passions to others.

Sam was a member of the U.S. Air Force and was always proud to fly the American flag. He retired from the Sun Gazette after more than 20 years of service as a sales manager. A Celebration of Life funeral service to honor Sam will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at Northway Community Church, 1680 Four Mile Drive, Williamsport, with a lunch for all after the service.

Burial will be held privately in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Quiggleville. Memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s name to Central PA Food Bank, 3301 Wahoo Drive, Williamsport, PA 17701 with flower and food deliveries sent to Northway Community Church, 1680 Four Mile Drive, Williamsport, PA 17701.
