Sandra Banner, 78, of Centerville and formerly of Des Moines passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center – Long Term Care in Centerville. Sandra was born to Peter & Lillian (Hauter) Bartos on December 19, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. Sandra received her education from Taft High School in Chicago, graduating in 1958 and then attended School of the art Institute of Chicago.

On April 29, 1967, Sandra was united in marriage to Thomas W. Banner. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1990. Sandra worked as a corporate travel agent for many years.

Her job allowed her and her husband to travel the world. Her favorite international destinations included Greece, Egypt, the Holy Land, Italy, London, and Ireland. While back home in Iowa, Sandra enjoyed spending her free time with friends and family in Clear Lake.

Following her working years, she volunteered at American Red Cross and supported her grandchildren at every opportunity available. Survivors include her daughter, Tracey Grothe (Brad); grandsons: Ben Grothe and Nathan Grothe; sister Carole Pearson and numerous extended family. Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Resthaven Cemetery – 801 19th St. – West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.

Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross and condolences may be shared at www. thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
