Sanford “Ed”‘s Obituary What do we know about “time”? In many ways it’s subjective, defined by recollections, milestones, hallmarks. For Ed–Sanford Edwin Snyder (b.
May 29, 1949. d. February 20, 2019)–time held significance when he first played ball on the Camden (NY) high school team… It was when he and his Kentucky college friends cut down a tree on the president’s lawn… It was when he met Sheri Ferris, and on February 2nd, 1977 they married, beginning a 42 year saga in which he assumed the role of provider and she, sustainer. Ed was a timid man who found it difficult to speak publicly–stuttering through Biblical passages before the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation–yet who conquered his timidity to converse comfortably with his innumerable Prudential Insurance clients.
(His success as a salesman obtained him Academy of Honor and Million Dollar Round Table awards–benefits of which included trips to the annual Prudential convention at Disney World for him, Sheri and their two daughters, Shannon and Gabriel. ) Ed was a low-key, (sharing) head-of-household who provided shelter for not only their daughters but also for their grandchildren–Jondre, Saida, Jamela, Tatyanna, Isaiah, Zion, Elijah, Kieran, and Jaheim, and great-grandchildren Kai and Javon: all of whom lovingly referred to him as “Da”. The Snyder household was also served as a home-away-from-home for Moriah Lomascolo; Sheri’s brothers Ken (Suzanne), Scott (Sharon), and Christopher (Deanna) and Sheri’s late sister Karen.
Ed’s late parents–Sonny and Laura Britschge Snyder–and late in-laws–Richard and Faye Ferris–opened the road ahead for him while his dear friends Arthur and Sharon Lomascolo helped him find his path away from the physical pain that burdened his final years. So how will Ed’s time on earth be remembered? As the otherwise quiet person who would belt out the Rolling Stones’ “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction,” while sitting in the parking lot, awaiting Sheri’s return from the store?
Or as the coach of the local Pop Warner football team, who inspired his grandchildren to pursue sports? Most assuredly he will be remembered as the devoted, loving husband… And as the parent who attempted to instill in his descendants that it is better to give than to receive. Ed will be memorialized on Sunday, February 24th, at 3:30 pm, at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6615 Potter Road, Rome, New York.
