Obituary for Sara Jo Sherwood Sara Jo Sherwood, 92, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at her home. She was born February 12, 1926 in Westville, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Mollie Montgomery. She graduated from Muskogee High School in 1943 and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Northern Illinois University.

She also received additional education and certifications from Central Northwestern University, UCLA, Governor’s State University, National College of Ed and Lewis University. Sara worked as a Teacher and School Administrator for the school system in Elgin, Illinois and retired after many years of service. She also served as the Special Education Supervisor for the district.

She met and later married Robert E. Sherwood on November 1, 1947 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared more than 40 years of life and marriage together when Robert passed in 1987. Sara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Gibson.

She enjoyed playing bridge, collecting antiques, and gardening. She was proud to be a member of DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kathryn Mistrot; brothers, Robert Erwin Montgomery and Benjamin William Montgomery; husband, Robert E Sherwood; daughter, Patricia Susan Sherwood; a son; 1 grandchild; 1 great-grandchild; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Sara is survived by her children, Brenda Sherwood, Judith Miller, Sheila Robinson, and Joy Miller; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; niece and nephew, Bob and Aimee Montgomery, great nephew, Rob and Becky Montgomery; great-great nieces and nephew, Emily and Jeff Allcorn, and Mollie Montgomery; special friends and care givers, Paula Casteel and Tinker Frazier.
