Obituary for Sara Juanita Straw (Hawes) Sara Juanita Straw 1929-2018 Sara J. Straw, 89, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. Sara was born on April 22, 1929 in Capron, Illinois to Harold and Sylvia (Moon) Hawes. She was a graduate of the Capron Illinois High School and Hamilton Business School, Rockford, Illinois.

Sara worked as a legal secretary for the Colorado State Supreme Court until her retirement in 1989. She married Vern Hunter on July 8, 1951 in North Hollywood, California; later divorced in 1967. He preceded her in death in 1996.

She was reunited to her childhood sweetheart after a 46 year separation. After years of growing and maturing they met again in the same village where it all began, Capron, Illinois. They had lived 65 miles apart for over 20 years in Colorado without knowing it, but the Lord knew and arranged it at just the right time.

On October 17, 1991 Sara was eating lunch in the Capron Cafe with her mother and sister with Everett by himself. “After overhearing my mother introduce me to the waitress Everett realized who I was. All of the feelings of 46 years ago were recalled by our spirits and from then on, the rest is history”.

On September 26, 1992 Sara and Everett were married in Poudre Canyon Chapel, Bellvue, Colorado. Everett survives of the home. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

She was active in the church choir and genealogy research. She was also active with the Sweet Adelines (Barbershop). She enjoyed writing poetry and had published poetry.

Additional survivors include two sons, Dan (Janice) Hunter, Heber City, Utah and Barney Hunter, Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Rhanda (Russ) Todd, Benjamin (Julie) Hunter, Amber Hunter, Kathryn (Jeremy) McGraw and Byron (Leslie) Hunter and eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Harold “Jack” Hawes, Jr. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sara was also preceded by her parents and one son, Bradley Hunter, two brothers, Carl and Jim Hawes, three sisters, Frances, Doris and Wanda. Services 10am Wednesday, December 12th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Maryville, Missouri under the direction of Price Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorials to the Maryville Ward General Fund LDS Church. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.
