Obituary for Sarah Alice “Sally” Grohsmeyer RICHMOND, Ind. – Sarah Alice “Sally” Grohsmeyer, age 91, of Richmond, Indiana, died Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born July 11, 1927, in Elwood, Indiana, to William and Vivian Dudley, Sally was a long-time resident of Richmond.

She graduated from Elwood High School in 1945 and from DePauw University in 1949. Sally and Frederick were wed following her college graduation. They moved to Richmond where Dr. Grohsmeyer began teaching at Earlham College, and Sally began her career in Human Services as a case worker for the Wayne County Department of Public Welfare.

Subsequently, she worked as Executive Secretary for the Wayne County Crippled Children and Adult Society and later, as a Social Work Advisor at IU East. Sally was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, where she faithfully served as a trustee, Elder, and Deacon. Sally was active in the Richmond Tourist Club, the Collegiate Club, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Tri Kappa Sorority and had served on the board of directors for both United Way and the Y.W.C.A.

She was a consummate hostess and organizer, whose years of volunteer work have left a wonderful legacy in the Richmond community. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Anne “Peggy” (Michael) Judson of Middlebury, Indiana; grandchildren, Aaron (Abby) Judson of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Sarah Breanne (Raymon Carire) Judson of Nappanee, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Logan and William; sister, Mary Eyrman of Warsaw, Indiana; and a niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Frederick A. Grohsmeyer Jr., who died in 2012; son, Erik Grohsmeyer, who died in 1999; and her parents. Visitation for Sally Grohsmeyer will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Entombment will follow in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church, 100 North 10th Street, Richmond with Pastor Andrew Wall and Pastor David A. Layman officiating.
