Sarah Haveman, age 98, of Lynden, passed away on October 27, 2018. Sarah was known for being loving and compassionate to all and for her hospitality. Sarah was born September 22, 1920 in Bellingham to parents Harmon and Mary (Stewart) Sturtz.

Sarah was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County graduating from Lynden High School at age 16 then went on to Bellingham Secretarial School. Sarah married Alfred Haveman on June 27, 1941 and together they raised three children on a small farm north… Read More » of Lynden. Sarah enjoyed painting and all kinds of handiwork.

She also liked reading, loved to travel, a good game of cards and fishing. Sarah volunteered at the Lighthouse Mission and with the Reformed Church of America, women’s division, traveling throughout the US. Sarah was a secretary at First Reformed Church and later worked for the New Crescent.

At her passing she was the oldest member of FRC, Lynden. After retirement Alfred and Sarah enjoyed many years of snowbirding in California and Arizona. Sarah is survived by her children Gary (Carol) Haveman, Lynette (Dennis) Hollander, Laurie (Richard) Porter; 9 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded by her parents, husband Alfred, two brothers Donald and John, and daughter-in-law Shirley Haveman. You are invited to join family and friends for a Graveside committal on November 5, 2018 at 12 PM at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale followed by a 1:30 Memorial service at First Reformed Church, Lynden with Pastor Ryan Bajema officiating.
