Obituary for Seth McKinney Seth Daniel McKinney, age 15, of Valley Road in Spruce Pine, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, TN. Seth was born on September 16, 2003 in Mitchell County. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Potter, Sr. Seth was currently a sophomore at Mitchell High School where he ranked first academically in his class.

He loved God and enjoyed studying Theology. He also loved politics. He was a member of the Mitchell Mountaineers Junior Varsity Basketball Team.

He was an avid Seattle Seahawks and Duke Blue Devils fan. He also loved playing ball with his brothers. Left to cherish his memories are his mother; Heather Rickman and husband, Andy of Spruce Pine; his father; Tony McKinney and wife, Mariah of Bakersville; his brothers; Alex and Tyler McKinney both of Spruce Pine; his maternal grandmother; Susan Potter of Crumpler, NC; his paternal grandparents; Buddy and Belle McKinney of Bakersville; his maternal great grandmother; Evelyn Jones of Warrensville, NC; his aunts and uncles; Bruce and Valarie Biddix of Spruce Pine; Paul, Jr. and Christina Potter and Gene and Shannon Woods all of Jefferson; his lifelong best friend; Adam Gortney; and special friends, Ben Robinson and Cara Heath.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the service celebrating the life of Seth McKinney on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Mitchell High School gym with the Rev’s. Zack Mason and Russell McKinney officiating. Interment will be in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mitchell High School Athletic Department where a scholarship fund will be established in Seth’s memory. Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www. webbfh.com.
