Sharion L. Higgins Parker, 60, of Pasadena, formerly of Brazoria, will be Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church, 6437 FM 521, Brazoria, TX with Pastor Jonathan Taylor officiating and Pastor Phillip Smith III eulogizing. Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas. Sharion made her precious sunrise to the union of Napoleon B. Higgins and Eliza V. Smith on January 18, 1958.
She committed her life to Christ at a very early age remaining faithful in her commitment throughout her life and at the time of her passing was a member of Better Days Ministries were she had been an active participant in the choir, ministered as a Sunday School teacher and served in the culinary ministry until her health impaired her ability to do so but did not impact the profound magnitude of her faith. Sharion lead the way for others as she was the 1976 Homecoming Queen at Columbia High School and successfully held a state record in track that lasted for over twenty-five years. She also held the all time scoring record in basketball for University of Houston for twenty three years and where she currently remains the highest ranking leader in the number of games played.
Sharion served as an educator for more than thirty years at LaPorte High School and was the Head Basketball Coach for thirteen years leading her team to the state competition. Sharion left a significant impression on the lives of students who she taught and coached, many who reached out to provide support during her illness. She believed, lived, walked and loved in her faith; always magnifying the good in others.
Sharion was an avid historian, a sports fanatic with her favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs and she loved reading. She was the sponsor of the Black Heritage Club a student civic organization focused on the importance of African American history and contributions. Beyond serving God and encouraging others her greatest love was spending time with her son Drew, her family and her dog Houston.
After a courageous battle with cancer that tested but never diminished her faith Sharion made her gracious sunset surrounded by family on April 7, 2018 at her home in Pasadena, Texas. She was preceded in death by her step-parents Eloise Higgins and Phillip Smith, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Timothy and Mary Higgins; maternal grandparents, Nathan Lewis, Sr., Katie Lewis and Dorothy Lewis; sister and beloved friend, Michelle Fonteno. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: spouse, Andrew Parker, Sr., Houston; son, Andrew Parker, Jr., Houston; mother, Eliza V. Smith, Brazoria; father, Napoleon B. Higgins, Sr. (Mary), Houston.
; sisters, Melody A. Higgins and Virginia T. Smith both of Angleton, Angela Richardson (Roy), Houston and Marsha A. Lewis, West Columbia; brothers, Gerald W. Smith (Mary) and Phillip Smith, III both of Angleton and Napoleon B. Higgins, Jr. (Angelica), Houston along with a circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Active pallbearers will be Marvin Jones, Johnnie Higgins, Sr., Jose Millan, James Thompson, Jr., Kenneth Thompson and Randy Collins, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald W. Smith, Phillip Smith, III, Napoleon B. Higgins, Jr., Elroy Griggs, Roy Richardson, Jr., Ashton Smith, Kaeman Tims and Jacolby Thompson. Visitation will be Friday, April 13, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a wake service from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Angleton.
