Obituary for Shawna Jolleen Johansen Shawna Jolleen Johansen Born in Salt Lake City to Ardith and Dean Johansen on October 11, 1949, our dear sister, “Good Aunt,” and loyal friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 17, 2018 after battling stomach cancer. Although we are heartbroken at her passing, we know that she has returned home and is now at peace. Shawna graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, where she participated in the Social Arts Club and Yearbook Staff.
Later, she attended the University of Utah, and worked as a Financial Manager at Metz Baking Company/Sara Lee Bakery/Bimbo Bakeries for 36 years, before retiring in 2015. Shawna loved and excelled at playing pool, and won several tournament championship trophies. She was an avid Utah Jazz and University of Utah football fan, and loved spending time with her sister on weekend trips to Wendover.
Frequently, she impressed family and friends with her incredible luck at the slot machines. Shawna hated for others to fuss over her, but she always gave unconditional love, support, and caring to her family and friends. She instigated most of our family outings, gatherings, and traditions, and we cherish those memories of fun and togetherness.
She lived out-of-state for several years, but returned to Utah to help care for her ailing mother prior to her death. She was a rock of strength, wisdom, and support to her brother and sister. She doted on and spoiled her nieces and nephews, and was a loved and trusted friend to them as they grew up.
Later, she also doted on and spoiled her great-nieces and nephews, and they adored her in return. We called her our “Good Aunt,” because she truly was the best aunt ever. We will miss her so much.
Shawna is survived by her brother Al (Virginia) Johansen; sister Su’Ann Johansen; nieces Krista (Max) Burton and Julie Johansen; nephews Robert (Michelle) Johansen, Brion (Julie) Johansen, Matthew (Megan) Johansen, Todd (Mallory) Johansen, and Jeffrey (Clarissa) Johansen; as well as great-nieces Abigail, Sidney, McKinnlee, Morgan, Addison, Kennadee, Ava, and Oaklee; and great-nephews Jayden, Carter, and Kaige. Shawna is preceded in death by her parents and niece Jennifer Johansen. The family would like to thank Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Dr. Gilcrease and his staff, as well as Huntsman Home Health Care during hospice for their compassionate care, and to her longtime physician Dr. Stephen Wood for his tender care.
The family also wishes to thank her best friend Dixie Barrett for her unceasing support and love for Shawna, especially while taking her to radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
