Shirley J. Donley, 84, of Salem, AL passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 at her home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am EST Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL Chapel with Dr. David Kees and Rev. Jimmy Grantham officiating.

Interment will follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.

Mrs. Donley was born July 18, 1934 in Enid, OK, daughter of the late Orvil R. Smack and Lennie Estell Temple Smack. Although she was a teacher in several different school systems, she retired from the Smiths Station School System. She was a faithful member of Smiths Station Baptist for over 45 years.

Mrs. Donley ran the Food Bank and taught the Sunshine Art Class at Smiths Station Baptist. She taught art and ceramics at the Phenix City Senior Center, as well as being a member of the Bridge Club. Mrs. Donley was also a past officer of the East Alabama Rock and Gem Club.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, James Donley and a great-granddaughter, Ellie Clare Clement. Mrs. Donley is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Kenneth Donley of Salem, AL; a daughter, Barbara Donley Lloyd of Salem, AL; two sons, Kenneth Orvil Donley and Paul E. Donley, both of Salem, AL; grandchildren, Brandon Donley, Jessica Bramlett (Matt), Amy Clement (Michael), Sam Donley, and Stacey Roby (Caleb); one great-grandchild, Scarlet Clement; cousins, Thelma Johnson and Janet L. Johnson; several extended family and caring friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Donley’s caregivers, Donna Oakes and Diana Stuzman.
