OBITUARY Shirley Thompson Little September 17, 1935 – July 17, 2018 Funeral for Shirley Thompson Little, who died July 17th, will be Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Decatur Presbyterian Church, PCA, at 3:30 p.m. with visitation at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Rick Stark will officiate. Interment will be in the family enclosure at Penny Cemetery, Hillsboro, AL. Mrs. Little was born on September 17, 1935, in Decatur, to Graham Calvin Thompson and Elizabeth Baber Thompson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Little, Jr; son, John Henderson Little; and sister, Nell Thompson White. Mrs. Little was a 1953 graduate of Decatur High School and a 1955 graduate of Falls Business College in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a retired employee of the State of Alabama.

During her career Mrs. Little was the secretary of Carlton Kelley, past president of Calhoun Community College, and she worked for the State of Alabama Departments of Highway, Revenue, and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Little was a past member and officer of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Saint Andrew’s Society, and numerous other genealogical and historical societies. She is a descendant of several prominent early settlers and planters of the counties of Madison, Morgan, and Lawrence, including founders of Decatur and Trinity.

Mrs. Little was a Christian from her youth. She raised her five children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in her youth and, for many years, Saint Ann Catholic Church.

Prior to their retirements, for a number of years, she and her husband made their home in Tuscaloosa where they were members of Riverwood Presbyterian Church of America. Mrs. Little’s survivors include her sister, Sara Thompson Dickerson; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Bruce Wesley; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Karren Little, and Dennis and Renee Little. Her son, George Little, who diligently cared for her in her final years; six grandchildren: Dacoda Little, Jess Little, Amanda Wesley, Jennifer Little, Jonah Little, and Jackson Little; three great grandchildren: Grace Little, Colt Little, and Matelyn Little.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to your church or Hospice of the Valley. “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind”.
